The Best Way To Learn Aromatherapy

FREE Introduction To Aromatherapy Class with Aromahead

Here is the best way to learn about aromatherapy and essential oils. For years I longed to become an Aromatherapist.  This seemed impossible as a working professional. However, persistence paid off when I met Robert Tisserand on Linkedin.  That was the beginning of my journey to becoming an Aromatherapist.

In a brief conversation with Mr. Tisserand, I asked what school would you recommend for Aromatherapy Studies. Without any hesitation, he said the Aromahead Institute with Andrea Butje.  At that time the Institute only offered in classroom courses and it was nearly impossible for me to take a leave to pursue my interest. None the less I contacted the Institute and as my luck would have it, I spoke with Andrea herself. She was warm, pleasant and delightful.  She put all my fears to rest.  Most of all she announced that she will be discontinuing the in-class requirements and moving to an Online Institute.  This was good news for me. Now I could stay at home and study toward becoming a Certified Aromatherapist. I did not enrol immediately. I still had the cost of tuition and the purchase of the Essential Oil ahead of me.

Andrea then offered me the Free Introduction To Essential Oils Course.  Which I did and passed.  Then, I enrol in the Anatomy and Physiology for ACP and passed. Now was the time to purchase my oils to begin the Aromatherapy Certification Program. She invited me to a webinar in which all of the attendees were given a discount coupon to purchase their oils.  As soon as my oils arrived, I enrolled in the Aromatherapy Certification Program Online and I have not been disappointed.  Now I have started my very own online business where I sell essential oils.  Thus allowing me to make money while learning.

There are so many benefits to studying online.  Aromahead offers payment plans, a student support forum, and regular online webinars to name just a few.  The staff, alumni and current students all support and encourage each other.  This is by far the best Institute of Learning I have ever come across in all my studies.

Courses At Aromahead

Here is just a sample of some courses currently being offered online at Aromahead Institute:  Body Butters and Lip Balm, Aromatherapy for Natural Living, Aromatherapy for the Massage Therapist and the Aromatherapy Certification Program Online.  Visit Aromahead and see what the can do to assist you on your journey to becoming a Certified Aromatherapist.

No longer do you have to wait weeks for your grades or certificate upon completing a course.  At Aromahead, when you have completed a segment or a chapter you receive a congratulatory email. Which I found to be a bit of inspiration to continue on my journey towards certification.

I encourage you to stop procrastinating and go for it!

Three Ways To Treat A Migraine Headache

Just for you, that individual that suffers a migraine suffers.  When nothing else seems to work.  Here are three ways to relieve a migraine headache without spending hundred of dollars, going to see a physician immediately or taking over the counter painkillers.  The are all methods that the average person has in his or her medicine cabinet at home.  If you do not, you can purchase all of these items at ohnaturalaromatherapy.com/store.

Solutions For A Migraine Headache

  1. Inhalation Therapy: On a clean cotton ball place 3 – 5 drops of peppermint essential oil, hold the cotton ball at least 12 inches away for the nose and inhale the vapours. Continue to inhale until you feel a noticeable difference. Bearing in mind that peppermint essential oils have a cooling, minty and refreshing aroma. Inhaling peppermint will also help to relieve respiratory issues, like colds, flu, bronchitis, sinus problems and asthma.  It also helps to clear your mind if you are feeling tired and can’t focus.
  2. Another Inhalation Therapy:  Get a diffuser to use in your personal environment.  There are several types to choose from and you can fine them in our Aromatherapy Store Online. There you will find ceramic, reed, electric diffusers and jewellery to dispense the essential oils in your environment of choice.  In the video below, I demonstrate how to use a ceramic diffuser.

3. Topical Massage Blend: In a small glass bowl or container add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 3-5 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil. Blend together and massage both temples.

Take caution when using essential oils and in this case peppermint essential oil.  Essential Oils are very potent and should not be used directly on the skin undiluted. In addition, you should not use essential oils on children under the age of two years, pregnant women and the elderly.  Please, you should consult an Aromatherapy Practitioner or Aromatherapist before starting any essential oil therapy.  Last, by no means do I suggests that you should ignore or avoid treatment recommended by your family doctor. But rather, use aromatherapy as a preventative treatment that can and will complement or prevent the need for traditional treatments.

The Aromatherapy Story and How it Evolved

Over the years, I have read so many stories and interpretations of the evolution of Aromatherapy. However, the best and most intriguing one was told by these two gentlemen: René-Marice Gattefossé (author) Robert B. Tisserand (editor) 1993 Gattefossé’s Aromatherapy: the first book on aromatherapy. CW Daniel, Saffron Walden, p 87

The Aromatherapy Story

Read the excerpt for yourself and share this miraculous wonderful discovery with fellow Aromatherapy students, practitioners and persons interested in aromatherapy around the world:  According to Wikipedia (as of November 13th, 2007), “The word “aromatherapy” was first used in the 1920s by French chemist René Maurice Gattefossé, who devoted his life to researching the healing properties of essential oils after a lucky accident in his perfume laboratory. In the accident, he set his arm on fire and thrust it into the nearest cold liquid, which happened to be a vat of NOx Ph232 or more commonly known as lavender oil.  Immediately, he noticed surprising pain relief and instead of requiring the extended healing process he had experienced during recovery from the previous burns-which caused redness, heat, inflammation, blisters, and scarring.  This burn healed remarkably quickly, with minimal discomfort and no scarring.”

It’s remarkable how the mythical aspects of “Gattefossé’s burn” have continued, becoming more and more elaborate, long after the publication in English, in 1993, of his 1937 book Aromathérapie, which did indeed represent the first introduction of the word (though not in the 1920s). Yes, he burned his hand in his laboratory (he was a chemist) and yes, he treated it with lavender oil, but the notion that this was a eureka-like, lucky-chance moment is somewhat exaggerated. And there was no “vat” of lavender. And he did not “devote his life” to researching aromatherapy. Translated from French, this is Gattefossé’s own description of the incident, and this is all he has to say about it:

How It Evolved

While the incident did not initiate his study of aromatherapy, it was certainly a strong hint – a definite push in a direction he was already headed. Subsequently, he collaborated with a number of doctors who treated French soldiers for war wounds using lavender and other essential oils. The accounts of these cases constitute a large part of his text.

In Gattefossé’s book, we also find the first written record in modern times to the skin as a route of administration for essential oils. He talks about oral, rectal, inhalational and injection (they had all been used by then) and continues: “Why not add cutaneous absorption to this list?” This hint was later taken up by Marguerite Maury, but that’s another story.

The Modern Influencer

It is widely known that Robert Tisserand is one of the world’s leading experts in aromatherapy. He works as an independent industry consultant, online educator and live presenter. He keeps his finger on the pulse of scientific developments in aromatherapy, following the newest research and developments.

One of the world’s leading experts in aromatherapy.

He is an influencer who was instrumental in me beginning my journey into Aromatherapy.  For this, I am truly thankful.  Because of his personality and willingness to share information in aromatherapy. I pursued my studies in Aromatherapy at Aromahead Institute in Florida and online under the tutelage of Andrea Butje. The author of Essential Living and The Heart of Aromatherapy.

In recent weeks the news headlines in some way included the Zika Virus Disease .  The Zika Virus is mosquito born disease.  It is caused or spread when people come into contact with a infected Aedes Mosquito.

Aedes Mosquito
Aedes Mosquito

The most common symptoms are fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis (red eyes).  In the Bahamas we say, “Pink Eye”.  The illness is usually mild and lasting several days to a week after being bitten an infected by the mosquito.

The CDC is urging the public especially pregnant women to be aware when traveling to countries and territories with active Zika Virus transmissions being reported.  Some of these countries and territories include Brazil, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and several states in the United States.

Four (4) Things Can Do To Prevent Contracting The Zika Virus:

  • Check Gardens and Yards To Remove Standing Water.
  • Research Affected Areas Before Booking Travel Plans
  • Use Topical Mosquito Repellents Made of Essential Oils
  • Essential Oils Sprays
  • Wear Long Sleeves at Dust When Mosquito Appear
  • Vector Surveillance and Control

As a means to bring awareness to the Zika Virus Disease spreading and to advocate for  preventative measures this video was created.

Oh! Natural Aromatherapy Awareness Video

This virus should be of global concern because of its affect on infants.  Children are being born with small heads due to the mother being infected during pregnancy. This disease is of great concern because in my aromatherapy training we always cautioned pregnant women about using essential oils during pregnancy.  However, I do not support that these women use this essential oils directly on their bodies.  I do support using it in the environment as a mosquito repellent.

The following essential oils are recommended to be used as repellents or to create repellent sprays:  Citronella Cymbopogon Nardus, Lemon Eucalyptus , Eucalyptus Eucalyptus Globulus , Cedar, Catnip, Lavender, Peppermint, Geranium, Thyme, Lemon, Orange, Pine.

Home Made Essential Oil Repellent Spray

Directions: Fill the spray bottle with the choice of either 1.5 fl. ounces of distilled water and 1.5 fl. ounces of alcohol or 3 fl. ounces of distilled water. (Even though a 4 oz. bottle is suggested, leave about 1 oz. unfilled so you can shake the bottle well between uses.) Then, add the essential oils.

To Use Follow Directions Carefully: Shake the bottle before each use. Essential oils do not fully dissolve in water and alcohol and will settle. If you do not shake the bottle, you risk having concentrated droplets of essential oil irritate your skin.

Aromatherapy Essential Oil Diffusers

Diffusers VS Humidifiers

Diffusers vs Humidifiers Reviewed

Prior to commencing my aromatherapy studies I never realized the many varieties of diffusers or the difference between a diffuser and a humidifier. The Mirriam Webster Dictionary defines humidifier as a machine that adds moisture to a room.  Though they are similar a humidifier there are many differences. However both are beneficial to  maintaining good health and wellness in 2016 and beyond.

Enjoy stress relief with this aromatherapy oil diffuser.

The Diffuser – they come in a variety of forms.  There are reed diffusers, electric and ceramic diffusers.  My all time favorite diffuser has been of the ceramic nature.  Simply because they are usually handmade, they come in a variety of styles and colors and can be consider little piece of art to add to a decor. They are found in a large variety of stores making them great gift ideas.   The reed diffusers make great additions to the decor of any home or office and they smell wonderful in any space. These too can be found in an assortment of styles, sizes and scent.  Click here to find a large variety of diffusers in one place. http://bit.ly/1muWH3I

Humidifiers are awesome products to add moisture to the environment. I recall living in Chicago in the brutal winter weather, while indoor the thermostats were all turned up and the windows were usually closed and the area was dry. The best way I found to combat the treat of getting colds and infections, and combat dry air in my environment was to us a humidifier.  Humidifiers can be found for warm and cold mist form. Click here to view humidifiers.  Be sure to investigate further to find the best one for you and your environment.

Here are seven (7) reasons to use a humidifier:

  1. Soothe Dry Skin – especially in the harsh winter weather.
  2. Faster Healing Process – especially for persons who suffer from allergies. The humidifier is the only thing that relieves my niece when her allergies act up.
  3. Prevent Noise Bleeds – adding moisture to the air helped my little brother. Adding moisture to the air controlled and eventually stopped his nose bleeds.
  4. Relieves Sinusitis – experts in the field have confirmed humidifiers are extremely good for persons suffering from congestion and sinusitis.
  5. Controls Static Electricity – during my years living in Chicago I recall suffering that jarring jolt of static electricity when touching door nobs. A humidifier lessened this potential during those harsh winter months. Don’t get me wrong I loved those winter months.
  6. Reduce Snoring –  It is said that low moisture levels in your nose and soft palate can increase snoring. It is recommended that you drink lots of water and add a humidifier in your bedroom to reduce or prevent snoring.
  7. Indoor Plant Hydration – Low humidity can cause the indoor plant leaves to turn brown and die. Many of this plants come from tropical climates with high humidity.  Most noticeable when a humidifier is added to the environments these indoor plants thrive.

Don’t get me wrong there are some cautions you should note when using diffusers and humidifiers.  When using these items they should be monitored.  Any where a ceramic diffusers and tea light candles are being used please keep out of reach of children.  Also when adding humidifier bare in mind that too much moisture can promote the  growth of organisms.  I must caution you to monitor your moisture levels.  Safety first in all instances.
